Sun Chemical has launched the next-generation SolarFlex FSP UV flexographic ink range to help label and packaging converters meet tightening regulatory expectations across European and international markets. The release reflects wider food manufacturing trends and the growing need for reliable compliance within modern packaging production.
Developed for food-contact packaging, labels, and shrink sleeves, the enhanced formulation meets or exceeds the requirements set by the German Ink Ordinance (GIO) and Swiss Ink Ordinance (SIO). As food and drink regulations continue to evolve, converters require materials that support both operational efficiency and stringent safety standards.
Low-migration performance for demanding production environments
Sun Chemical selected raw materials for the new formulation that help reduce the potential for chemical migration, flavour taint, and unwanted odour transfer in sensitive applications. This focus supports manufacturers responding to changing food and drink consumer trends, particularly increased expectations around product safety and packaging quality.
Although designed to meet demanding low-migration criteria, SolarFlex FSP inks deliver strong pressroom performance. The range combines low viscosity and minimal odour with fast curing, helping converters maintain efficient production. Trials and validation programmes conducted at leading European packaging sites demonstrated consistent operation at speeds above 200 metres per minute, while preserving print quality and compliance.
Flexible colour options for brand requirements
The range gives converters access to standard and high-intensity four-colour expanded-gamut process inks, as well as high-strength, mono-pigmented blending colours. This broad palette supports accurate reproduction across a wide range of brand shades and applications, helping businesses respond to evolving food and drink marketing demands.
Jonathan Sexton, product manager for energy curing at Sun Chemical, said the launch addresses the increasing challenge of combining regulatory compliance with high-volume manufacturing. The SolarFlex FSP range also supports the company’s wider strategy of developing sustainable, migration-compliant solutions for energy-curable, water-based, and sheetfed packaging systems. By combining advanced food processing technology with dependable output, the portfolio helps manufacturers pursue food and drink sustainability goals without compromising productivity. It also aligns with broader food and beverage industry trends, food distribution trends, food and drink packaging developments, and continuing food and drink industry innovation.
