A.H. Worth, a leading UK kale producer, is broadening its leafy brassica range with the introduction of Tesco Finest Red Kale. The new product will reached Tesco stores t the end of September, adding a distinctive option to the fresh produce category.

Featuring rich purple-red foliage and a subtly sweeter taste than conventional green kale, the variety gives retailers an opportunity to offer greater choice while encouraging consumers to try something different within a familiar vegetable segment.

The launch reflects several food and beverage industry trends, including rising interest in food and drink consumer trends, food and drink industry innovation and premium fresh produce. It also supports food and drink marketing strategies focused on creating clear visual differentiation at fixture.

Matt Walton, managing director – Fosdyke & Farms Group at A.H. Worth, said: “We’ve built considerable expertise in leafy brassicas over many years, and we’re always looking at how we can use that knowledge to bring something new and relevant to the fixture. Red kale does exactly that, helping to inspire shoppers while bringing something genuinely different to the category.

Red kale also offers versatility in the kitchen, as its leaves retain their structure well during cooking. In addition, it is naturally rich in vitamins K, A and C, provides calcium and folate, and contains fibre and antioxidants.

Grown in Lincolnshire, Tesco Finest Red Kale will launch exclusively at Tesco on 28 September. The 210g packs will be sold in 257 stores nationwide and through Tesco online, with a recommended retail price of £1.30.

The product’s arrival also highlights the role of food manufacturing trends, food processing technology, food distribution trends, food and drink sustainability, food and drink regulations and food and drink packaging in the wider fresh produce supply chain, from cultivation and packing through to retail availability.
