Kahlúa is extending its reach well beyond traditional coffee liqueur with the introduction of Kahlúa Coffee Cream. The permanent addition aims to inject fresh energy into the established cream-liqueur segment and reflect changing food and drink consumer trends.

A new occasion for cream liqueur

Kahlúa Coffee Cream combines real cream and Arabica coffee with the brand’s distinctive liqueur base. The result is positioned for relaxed, spontaneous occasions earlier in the evening rather than the conventional late-night serve. Pernod Ricard says younger consumers are increasingly choosing informal meetups and social drinks before the night reaches its peak.

To support this shift, Kahlúa has introduced Not A Nightcap, a light-hearted campaign that challenges long-standing assumptions about the category.

The campaign’s lead film features “granfluencers” Grimegran, Beau The Beard and Grandad Frank. In the storyline, the older characters reject the idea that cream liqueur belongs exclusively at bedtime, instead launching a DIY rave in a care-home lounge. This humorous approach presents Kahlúa Coffee Cream as a drink that can begin a social occasion, rather than simply provide a comforting final serve.

International expansion underlines ambition

After an initial test in selected airports, Kahlúa Coffee Cream is now being introduced across international markets, including Australia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand and Europe. Pernod Ricard says the launch reflects demand for updated versions of familiar drinks, supported by research indicating that 71% of UK adults welcome contemporary interpretations of established spirits.

The rollout also comes as Pernod Ricard works to restore growth after reporting a 3.9% decline in sales during the most recent financial year. The company is using rapid product development and category-crossing launches to rebuild momentum, reflecting wider food and beverage industry trends around premiumisation, convenience and occasion-based innovation.

Reaching a more social consumer

Kahlúa Coffee Cream represents a confident effort to give cream liqueur broader relevance among younger, socially minded drinkers. Its focus on humour, cultural connection and early-evening consumption mirrors developments in food and drink industry innovation, food and drink marketing and wider food and beverage industry trends.

By presenting the product as contemporary and shareable, Kahlúa is seeking to refresh a category traditionally linked with nostalgia and after-dinner rituals. The launch also demonstrates how brands can respond to evolving food and drink consumer trends without abandoning the familiar qualities that support long-term recognition.
