Ahlstrom Introduces New Grease-Gard® Papers for North American Foodservice Packaging food and drink packaging, food and drink sustainable packaging, Food packaging, paper, Recyclability Food and Beverage Business

Ahlstrom, a global supplier of fiber-based specialty materials, has commercially launched Grease-Gard® PLUS and Grease-Gard® PRO. The two additions broaden the Grease-Gard® range of high-performance grease-resistant papers for North American quick-service restaurants (QSRs) and food service operators.

The new products strengthen Ahlstrom’s food packaging portfolio by giving converters, distributors, and brand owners a more straightforward way to select paper according to specific application needs. At the same time, they retain the dependable performance associated with the established Grease-Gard® family.

As food and beverage industry trends continue to influence packaging development, food service customers increasingly require materials that deliver strong grease resistance, dependable converting performance, and measurable support for sustainability objectives. The updated portfolio structure simplifies access to Ahlstrom’s broad selection of grease-resistant papers, helping customers evaluate and specify the right product more efficiently.

Grease-Gard® PLUS combines the established grease resistance of the Grease-Gard® range with improved water holdout. Designed with recyclability in mind, it offers a sustainable alternative to wax-treated papers for food service applications exposed to moisture and condensation. The paper supports dependable converting, high-quality printing, and consistent package integrity across wraps, bags, and other food service formats.

For premium food service applications, Grease-Gard® PRO provides enhanced grease resistance and heat retention. It serves as a paper-based alternative to conventional foil bags and wraps, helping brands reduce aluminum use while preserving food quality, freshness, and the overall consumer experience. The solution is suited to hot sandwiches, burgers, burritos, and other grab-and-go products that require high-performance packaging.

Both products align with growing food and drink sustainability priorities by supporting the shift toward paper-based packaging without compromising the reliable performance expected by converters and food brands. Their development also reflects broader food manufacturing trends, food processing technology advances, and food and drink packaging requirements across the sector.

“The launch of Grease-Gard® PLUS and Grease-Gard® PRO reflects our commitment to making it easier for customers to navigate an increasingly complex packaging landscape,” said Travis Dahlke, Vice President, Global Food Packaging at Ahlstrom. “Beyond introducing two clearly differentiated products, we are providing a simpler portfolio that helps converters and brand owners quickly identify the right solution for their performance requirements while supporting their sustainability ambitions.”

The commercial availability of Grease-Gard® PLUS and Grease-Gard® PRO extends across North America through Ahlstrom‘s sales network. The launch supports evolving food distribution trends, food and drink consumer trends, food and drink marketing priorities, and the wider demand for food and drink industry innovation, while helping customers address changing food and drink regulations.
