UK-based Lune & Wild has successfully secured £2 million ($2.69 million) in funding aimed at expanding its production of baby and children’s food products and enhancing its retail footprint. This significant investment round, led by British investment firm Guinness Ventures, marks a pivotal milestone for the food and drink business.
The Series A funding, now closed, also welcomed contributions from notable figures such as Dr. Rupy Aujla, a respected author and general practitioner, and Doug Struthers, the former Managing Director of Ella’s Kitchen, who currently chairs Lune & Wild. This underscores the keen interest in emerging food and beverage industry trends that prioritize both quality and nutrition.
Founded in 2021 by cousins Lara Rodgers and Nadia Simonds, Lune & Wild specializes in creating chef-quality meals and snacks designed for young children. According to Lisa Fox, head of co-investment at Guinness Ventures, “Lune & Wild is a brand that defines the future of food: purpose-driven, product-led and building deep trust with parents.”
The newly acquired capital is set to “significantly increase” Lune & Wild’s production capabilities. In addition, the funds will accelerate retail launches, including a key partnership with Ocado, while also bolstering marketing efforts and hiring initiatives. Co-founder Simonds indicated that the company caters to various outlets, including nurseries, delis, farm shops, play cafes, and members’ clubs, demonstrating adaptability to evolving food and drink consumer trends.
Currently, the direct-to-consumer channel represents a substantial 75% of the company’s sales. Simonds disclosed that the upcoming kitchen facility will be four times larger than their existing site in West London, which reflects a robust commitment to scaling operations.
While Lune & Wild is currently focused solely on the UK market, Simonds noted, “We’ve had enquiries from other markets,” hinting at potential future expansion. Although specific sales and profit figures remain undisclosed, Simonds affirmed that the company is “doubling” its revenue year on year, reporting over one million meals delivered in the past year.
This ambitious growth trajectory aligns seamlessly with the ongoing transformation in the food and drink sector, where quality and trust are paramount.
