PepsiCo, recognized for its iconic brands such as Pepsi, 7UP, Doritos, and Walkers, has officially appointed XPO Logistics as its primary transport partner for England and Wales.
Under this partnership, XPO Logistics will manage operations across PepsiCo’s four main UK distribution locations: Leicester, Lutterworth, Coventry, and Warrington.
Aligning with PepsiCo’s decarbonization strategy, which aims for net-zero emissions by 2025, XPO Logistics plans to integrate Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric vehicles into PepsiCo’s transport fleet. This initiative is a significant step toward reducing the company’s carbon footprint.
XPO Logistics anticipates that this transition will convert over 1 million road kilometers annually from diesel to battery electric. Consequently, the company expects to cut more than 1,200 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year from PepsiCo’s transport operations.
Set to become operational for PepsiCo on August 1, 2025, the Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 trucks can cover a distance of 500 km on a single charge. Additionally, with the implementation of the future megawatt charging system, these trucks can recharge from 20% to 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
Moreover, XPO Logistics will deploy its proprietary CO₂ Reporting Dashboard. This advanced tool utilizes AI-driven scenario modeling, live data analytics, and proactive planning insights to significantly reduce PepsiCo’s road transport emissions in the UK.
Dan Myers, managing director for the UK and Ireland at XPO Logistics, stated: “Sustainability is in our DNA. We are proud to partner with PepsiCo on this journey, combining investment in electric mobility with advanced technology and operational excellence.”
He added, “Our shared ambition goes beyond compliance – it’s about transformation. I believe this is just the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
In response, Andrew Smethurst, UK logistics director at PepsiCo, remarked: “XPO Logistics has shown itself to be the ideal partner to help advance our PepsiCo Positive ambition. From their industry-leading sustainability credentials to a strong safety culture and transparent operational model, their team has consistently delivered innovation and value.”
“This new partnership will play a vital role in further reducing our logistics emissions as we transport iconic products like Walkers crisps and Doritos to our customers across the UK.”
Prior to this announcement, PepsiCo decided in July 2023 to transport all potatoes to its Walkers Crisps factory in Leicester using vehicles powered exclusively by hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO).
