Conservation Initiative and Rice Brand Broaden Offerings

Conservation project and rice brand expands range

IBIS Rice, a renowned Cambodian rice brand endorsed by conservationist Chris Packham, has unveiled an innovative product that redefines the snack category: Bean & Rice Cakes.

These nutty Bean & Rice Cakes serve as a natural source of protein and additional fiber, making them an exceptionally nutritious snack option.

Positioned as a prime example of collaborative supply chain thinking, IBIS Rice’s new organic Bean & Rice Cakes demonstrate how innovative market solutions can benefit soil health, wildlife, farmers, and consumers alike.

This latest offering from the eco-conscious brand aligns perfectly with the increasing consumer demand for protein-enriched foods. As individuals strive to incorporate functionality into their diets, alternative protein sources gain significant popularity.

Through the introduction of Bean & Rice Cakes, IBIS Rice brings on-trend innovation to the market—one that actively supports soil regeneration, prevents deforestation, and fosters a sustainable future for both farmers and wildlife.

Traditionally, IBIS Rice is cultivated once a year, relying on seasonal monsoon flooding.

By collaborating with farmers on soil enhancement, IBIS Rice has implemented inter-cropping with red black-eye beans. This natural fertilization process not only improves yields but also nourishes the soil to support wildlife and protect forest ecosystems.

As a result of introducing one rice crop annually along with two bean harvests before and after the rice season, IBIS Rice farmers now receive payments three times a year instead of once. This diversification of income is crucial for building climate resilience and ensuring future sustainability of their livelihoods.

Discussing the launch, Nicholas Spencer, CEO of IBIS Rice Conservation Co., stated: “Of course, a new product launch is always exciting, but this one is particularly noteworthy for us as a business. Not only do the Bean & Rice Cakes taste delicious, they are the absolute embodiment of what IBIS Rice stands for – good for farmers, wildlife, the planet, and our customers.”

IBIS Rice operates on a paddy-to-plate model, directly sourcing from farmers, processing, and packaging their products while retaining value within Cambodia. This approach allows them to sell directly to their UK distributor.

The streamlined supply chain ensures that a greater portion of the selling price of each bag of rice returns to the farmers, enabling them to invest in their futures and, in turn, fostering a sustainable ecosystem in which they operate.
