Seda International has launched the innovative EcoFit Lid, designed to completely replace traditional plastic lids with a leak- and spill-resistant solution suitable for both hot and cold beverages.
Seda emphasizes that an audible snap confirms the secure engagement of the lid with the cup rim, ensuring a tight fit that enhances safety during both in-store use and delivery.
Engineered in line with Seda’s eco-design principles, the EcoFit Lid offers both flat and domed options. Each version presents a choice of triangular or oval sip holes, along with either a C-cut, cross-cut, or Push & Lift action.
Made from 100% certified renewable fibres, the EcoFit Lid can be integrated with Seda’s advanced printing technology, offering exciting branding opportunities. According to Seda International, it boasts the lowest environmental impact of any fibre lid concerning CO₂ emissions and water consumption across the entire supply chain, from cradle to grave.
A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) utilizing EU data has definitively showcased the EcoFit Lid’s advantages over other options, including moulded fibre and plastic PS and PP lids. Recent gate-to-gate screenings by Seda further demonstrated EcoFit’s significant environmental benefits, highlighting considerably reduced water and energy consumption during production, as well as lower carbon emissions compared to even moulded fibre lids.
Moreover, the EcoFit Lid is fully recyclable within the paper stream and is also offered in a compostable version. This innovative lid can significantly mitigate the depletion of fossil resources caused by conventional plastic lids, potentially saving 400 tonnes of plastic for every 100 million units produced.
In addition, the EcoFit Lid complements Seda’s Double Wall cups, crafted from sustainable, printable paperboard. A patented air gap design ensures beverages remain cold longer while substantially minimizing condensation.
These cups and lids have been meticulously designed to comply with the rapidly evolving legislation across Europe, which increasingly favors sustainable packaging solutions.
