Sainsbury’s is initiating a trial across 77 supermarkets, allowing customers to purchase the Sainsbury’s Ripe & Ready Avocados twin pack in eco-friendly paper packaging at select stores. This move aligns with growing consumer demand for food and drink sustainability.

Upon successful completion of the trial, a broader rollout is expected to launch later this year, both in-store and online. This expansion reflects current food and drink consumer trends favoring sustainable packaging solutions.

The innovative, plastic-free avocado packaging includes paper combined with bamboo netting. Importantly, this solution is fully recyclable at the kerbside, positioning Sainsbury’s as a leader in sustainable packaging within the food and drink marketing sector.

Claire Hughes, director of product and innovation, stated: “Switching to paper packaging across our Ripe & Ready Avocados twin pack is one of the many steps we are taking to fulfill our commitment towards a greener future. The initiative reflects our continuous efforts to help develop more sustainable and innovative packaging solutions and we’re excited for our customers to try out the new packaging in-store.”
