The global fruit trading sector can make a significant impact on sustainable development  beyond protecting fresh fruit and vegetables from spoilage, environmentally-friendly and cost-effective packaging solutions are fully recyclable. At Fruit Logistica (Hall 2.1, Stand A-10) in Berlin from 7 to 9 February 2024, MULTIVAC will exhibit under the theme “Multiply your value”, showcasing machine technology and pack concepts focused on sustainability.

Among the exhibits on the MULTIVAC stand is a line solution for packing large product batches fully automatically. The TX 710 traysealer is the heart of the line, which packs fresh berries in biodegradable trays and seals them with a thin, transparent, and compostable film to protect against spoilage. Equipped with sensors and intelligent machine control, the TX 710 runs at its optimum operating point, ensuring high output and minimal waste, with an optional connection to the MULTIVAC Cloud for real-time production analysis and optimization. The compact H 130 handling module automatically unloads trays from the packaging machine at high speed and precision, further streamlining the packaging process.

In addition to the automatic line solution, MULTIVAC will also feature the compact T 305, a stand-alone traysealer for small and medium-sized product batches.

Resource-saving closure sealing of fruit and vegetables with labels

For fruits and vegetables that do not require vacuum or modified atmosphere packing, MULTIVAC will showcase two conveyor belt labellers for sustainable and cost-effective packaging. The labellers enable closure sealing and labelling of fruit and vegetable trays in one operation, offering different options like TopWRAPTM and TopCLOSETM closure sealing, providing options with less plastic usage and better recycling possibilities.

This automatic packaging process on a MULTIVAC conveyor belt labeller provides tangible cost savings compared with laborious manual solutions, helping reduce food waste to a minimum with an output of up to 180 packs per minute.

Packaging advice and presentations about the sustainable packing of fruit and vegetables

MULTIVAC experts will inform trade fair visitors about opportunities for improving recycling and the ecological footprint of products through innovative pack designs and alternative materials, enabling companies to produce more cost-effectively and with less material. The focus will also be on PACK BOARD materials. Additionally, a presentation on “Integrated packaging systems” by Cem Yildirim, Regional Sales Manager at MULTIVAC USA, will take place on the TechStage on 8 February 2024 at 2 pm.
