Prism Introduces Dairy Industry’s First Sustainable Packaging Solution for Bio&Me

This year, Bio&Me has launched an innovative line of functional kefir drinks designed to enhance immunity, boost natural energy, and provide protein and fiber benefits. To complement this launch, the brand recognized the need for a unique packaging solution that not only highlighted product visibility but also ensured product stability and sustainability—key themes in food and drink sustainability.

Prism has effectively delivered a packaging solution that “pushes the boundaries of dairy product packaging and raises the bar for sustainability in-category.” Unlike conventional dairy packaging, the new Bio&Me range employs a transparent bottle encased in fully recyclable EcoFloat shrink sleeving, thus achieving compliance, sustainability, and on-shelf visibility in food and drink packaging.

Engineered to enhance the sink/float separation process, EcoFloat sleeving can be recycled through established PP recycling streams. This means that the entire bottle, including its decoration, is fully recyclable—aligning with consumer demands for eco-friendly options in food and drink marketing.

Moreover, the full shrink sleeve design provides the necessary opacity to meet safety regulations while eliminating the need for less recyclable traditional white-colored plastic, which incurs higher Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) fees. By opting for EcoFloat shrink sleeving, Bio&Me significantly increased their brandable space compared to standard labels, allowing for a striking full-bottle design that stands out from typical dairy packaging.

Mark Isaacson, Chief Operating Officer at Bio&Me, commented: “Our new functional kefir range is shaking up dairy, and we wanted the pioneering nature of the products to be reflected by the packaging. As a proud UK manufacturer, we were delighted to partner with a home-grown British packaging specialist in Prism, and their consultancy and guidance was critical to developing our 100% recyclable shrink sleeve solution.”

“By rejecting the standard white plastic and label format, we developed an alternative that is better for consumers, retailers, and the environment. We’ve already seen strong sales post-launch, and we look forward to the continued success of the range.”

Ian Wright, Managing Director at Prism eLogistics, remarked: “Bio&Me is an incredibly exciting business, and we’re delighted to be part of their category-shifting new launch. By developing a solution that adheres to dairy regulations while being fully recyclable, we’re demonstrating that sustainability and EPR compliance can seamlessly integrate with eye-catching, true-to-brand packaging.”

“As more manufacturers across various sectors shift away from colored plastics, recyclable shrink sleeving presents an alternative that not only minimizes a brand’s environmental footprint and associated fees but also enhances visibility and expands marketing opportunities in the food and drink consumer trends space.”
