Amcor, a global leader in responsible packaging solutions, has recently invested in a new production line at its Amcor Flexibles facility in Lugo di Vicenza, Italy. This expanded site focuses on the creation of high-barrier, recycle-ready films suitable for various packaging formats encompassing food and drink packaging, along with other applications.

The new department facilitates the large-scale manufacturing of high-barrier films for lidding and pouches targeting a range of food, beverage, pet food, and healthcare applications. Notably, the facility offers AmLite HeatFlex™, an innovative material designed for high-heat retort applications. This technology not only ensures recyclability but also maintains superior barrier properties, aiding brands in their sustainability initiatives and compliance with forthcoming regulations.

Spanning nearly 7,000 m2, the Lugo facility’s expansion supports every stage of high-barrier film production. For instance, it includes a quality control laboratory and an advanced automated high-density warehouse featuring temperature-controlled chambers for material curing, ensuring consistent quality in food and drink sustainable packaging solutions.

Elena Peron, Plant General Manager, recognized the efforts of both the site employees and project team regarding this new investment, stating: “This new facility is the result of Amcor’s pledge to develop all our packaging to be recyclable, reusable or compostable. This expansion, combined with the Amcor team’s expertise, will support our customers in making the switch to recycle-ready packaging and contribute to a more circular packaging industry.”

The demand for recyclable, high-performance packaging is further emphasized by the European Union’s Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which mandates that brands transition to recycle-ready packaging by 2030. Amcor is proactively leading this shift by offering brands innovate solutions that align with PPWR requirements and respond to the increasing consumer demand for enhanced sustainability.
