Greiner Packaging has partnered with OMG Bubble Tea to launch a retail-ready, fully ready-to-drink bubble tea format. The project involved adapting Greiner’s K3 cup technology to meet the brand’s requirements for manufacturing, shelf life and the overall consumer experience.

With operations growing quickly across Europe and the US, OMG Bubble Tea required packaging capable of supporting rapid expansion while retaining the category’s distinctive premium and playful appeal. The solution reflects wider food and beverage industry trends, including demand for convenient formats, strong retail presentation and scalable production.

Greiner’s K3 cup provided the starting point. Its cardboard-and-plastic construction, incorporating a PP/EVOH barrier, was then technically adapted for OMG Bubble Tea’s filling operation and on-the-go positioning. This development aligns with evolving food manufacturing trends and the growing role of food processing technology in bringing innovative beverages to market efficiently.

As Greiner explains, “the focus was therefore on adapting the K3 cup to OMG Bubble Tea’s specific requirements”. The resulting 250 ml format combines product protection with compatibility across OMG’s current production lines. It also delivers the barrier properties required for a shelf-stable, ready-to-drink beverage, supporting the brand’s expansion in line with changing food distribution trends.

The finished pack includes Greiner’s New Tear Tab. This feature enables consumers to remove the cardboard sleeve from the plastic cup quickly and neatly. According to Greiner, the tab “makes it easier for consumers to separate the cardboard wrap from the plastic cup”, helping improve recyclability while making the product more convenient to use. The design responds to growing expectations around food and drink sustainability and practical food and drink packaging.

The printed cardboard sleeve also creates a prominent visual presence on the shelf. That advantage is particularly important as OMG Bubble Tea develops from a trend-led product into a mainstream FMCG brand. Greiner states that the K3 cup “provides the product protection and quality standards required for a ready-to-drink beverage”, giving OMG the foundation to broaden its retail distribution. The format also supports food and drink marketing strategies by combining brand visibility with a distinctive consumer proposition.

The collaboration illustrates how purpose-built packaging development can help beverage companies grow without sacrificing manufacturing performance, product quality or ease of use. By modifying its K3 platform for a specific application, Greiner has created a recyclable, visually engaging and portable pack for a rapidly expanding category. The project reflects ongoing food and drink industry innovation while addressing food and drink consumer trends and the practical demands of food and drink regulations.
