Packaging innovator Canovation and global packaging powerhouse Canpack have solidified a strategic partnership aimed at expediting the CanReseal technology towards readiness for commercial use and pilot production. This collaboration is focused on advancing the unique resealable aluminium can-end system from its late-stage development into widespread commercial applications throughout the international beverage supply network.

By merging Canovation’s eco-friendly container innovations with Canpack’s extensive manufacturing expertise and global presence, the companies are laying the technical groundwork essential for future market entry.

As part of this collaboration, both organizations will work in tandem to complete the remaining development steps necessary for pilot-line implementation. This phase is pivotal in bridging the transition from successful technology validation to large-scale production in real-world conditions.

To facilitate smooth integration, the initiative is backed by Canovation’s long-time partner, Stolle Machinery Company. Stolle provides crucial engineering, tooling, and machinery support to modify existing optimized can-making facilities for the new resealable ends.

With consumer preferences shifting towards sustainable options, this advancement brings notable operational and ecological benefits to beverage brands:

  • Infrastructure compatibility: The CanReseal system is designed to work with established can manufacturing and filling lines, enabling brands to integrate resealability without significant infrastructure changes.
  • Plastic reduction alternatives: The fully aluminium system serves as an eco-friendly substitute for single-use plastic bottles and closures, reinforcing corporate sustainability efforts and promoting a circular economy.
  • Enhanced consumer portability: The design merges the familiar advantages of standard beverage cans with the convenience and portability of twist-off bottles.

The development of this system has received substantial industry support, including participation in the global 100+ Accelerator program and collaborations with the Remade Institute. With pilot operations forthcoming, Canovation is proactively seeking financial and strategic support to advance to the next phase of deployment.

“This collaboration enables us to closely align with a manufacturing leader as we prepare for pilot production and commercial launch,” remarked Jeff Grajewski, chief operating officer of Canovation.

Fabio Hees, group commercial officer at Canpack, added: “This partnership exemplifies our ongoing commitment to promoting innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. We eagerly anticipate working alongside Canovation to ready CanReseal for market introduction.”

Both companies expect to finalize their immediate development objectives soon, setting a solid foundation for forthcoming commercial launches within the beverage sector.
