Crabbie’s, a leading name in the UK’s alcoholic ginger beer segment, is set to become part of Brookfield Drinks’ extensive brand lineup. Based in Bedfordshire, Brookfield manages a diverse portfolio that includes various beer brands like Kestrel, La Goudale, and Lionheart, as well as cider brands Diamond and White/Black Star.
In addition to its beer offerings, the company supplies NEO WTR mineral water to major retailers such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s, along with several wholesalers. Halewood Artisanal Spirits has held the Crabbie’s brand since 2007, originally acquiring it from Glenmorangie as ginger wine before successfully repositioning it as an alcoholic ginger beer two years later.
Nigel McNally, the founder of Brookfield Drinks, remarked, “Crabbie’s is a must-stock product within the fast-growing fruit and flavoured beer market.” He praised the brand’s legacy and recognition, not just in the UK but globally, highlighting its unique six-week ginger-steeping method and a rich heritage that dates back to 1801.
As the market for alcoholic ginger beer and flavored options expands—particularly among consumers looking for distinctive and refreshing craft drinks—McNally believes there is a substantial opportunity to enhance the brand’s presence further.
Crabbie’s currently has a footprint in over 30 international markets and offers a range of flavors in the UK, such as Original, Raspberry, Rhubarb, and Blood Orange, alongside a non-alcoholic alternative. It’s available at numerous top retailers, including Asda, Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, and Waitrose.
Initially introduced in Leith in 1801, Brookfield claims that Crabbie’s has become “the world’s No.1 most recognisable alcoholic ginger beer brand.” With this acquisition, they aim to solidify their role as “one of the key suppliers” in the fruit and flavored beer sector.
Stewart Hainsworth, CEO of Halewood Artisanal Spirits, stated, “The sale of Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer is another exciting step forward for the Halewood company as part of its spirits-focused artisanal brand strategy.” He expressed confidence in Brookfield’s plans to nurture and expand Crabbie’s both in the UK and internationally.
