MHP-Owned Uvesa Set to Acquire Poultry Competitor Payán Hermanos MHP Food and Beverage Business

Uvesa, the meat group managed by Ukraine’s MHP, has announced a significant acquisition, purchasing Spanish company Payán Hermanos. The financial details of the transaction remain undisclosed.

In a statement, Uvesa emphasized, “The agreement represents an important step in Uvesa’s development and reflects the company’s strategy to sustainably strengthen and expand its poultry business in Spain.” This move aligns with current trends in the food and beverage industry, where consolidation often leads to enhanced capabilities and market reach.

Founded in 1953, Payán Hermanos operates out of Maracena in southern Spain, offering a diverse array of poultry products to local consumers. The company is highly regarded within the food and drink business for its deep expertise in the poultry sector. Uvesa’s president, Antonio Sánchez, noted, “Payán is a company with extensive experience and recognised expertise in the poultry sector. Its integration into Uvesa will strengthen our operations and create new opportunities for sustainable development.”

MHP, listed in London and recognized as Ukraine’s largest poultry group, elevated its stake in Uvesa to 92% last August. This followed a prior agreement to acquire 41% of the company. At that time, Sánchez remarked that MHP’s controlling interest “marks a new and significant chapter for Uvesa, which will be able to boost its growth thanks to MHP’s extensive experience in operational innovation.”

Regarding the acquisition of Payán Hermanos, Sánchez added, “The acquisition represents a natural next step for Uvesa following its integration into the MHP group, as MHP continues to focus on strengthening the companies within the group and supporting their long-term development.”

This strategic acquisition not only reinforces Uvesa’s commitment to growth but also reflects emerging food and drink consumer trends that demand sustainability and operational efficiency in the industry.
