Italian Fund Acquires Majority Stake in Alimenta Produzioni Bakery and Cereal Food and Beverage Business

A fund managed by Fondo Italiano d’Investimento has acquired a majority stake in Alimenta Produzioni, an Italian manufacturer specializing in baked goods. This strategic move is aimed at enhancing the growth trajectory of the brand within the dynamic food and beverage industry.

On January 9, the private-equity firm announced its investment through the Fondo Italiano Agri&Food Fund (FIAF). However, the financial terms of the agreement remain undisclosed.

The transaction aligns with Alimenta’s current management team, allowing them to remain in place and invest alongside the fund, reinforcing their commitment to medium- to long-term growth objectives.

Founded in 2013, Alimenta is led by Valter Baldacci, the founder and CEO, along with partners Alberto Fenati and Matteo Federici. Based in Riccione, the company employs 265 individuals and reported revenues of approximately €50 million ($58.3 million) in 2025.

Pier Felice Murtas, a senior partner at Fondo Italiano, emphasized, “Alimenta represents a solid industrial platform with a distinctive positioning and significant growth opportunities, particularly in international markets.” He added that the collaboration with Valter Baldacci and his team will pivot on leveraging industrial investments, expanding the customer base, and enhancing organizational capabilities while fully valuing internal expertise.

Alimenta has established a noteworthy position in the Romagna piadina segment, known for Italian-style flatbreads. The company also produces pinsa and various savory bakery items. With three production facilities and a logistics center located in Emilia-Romagna and Marche, Alimenta supplies retail customers effectively.

Moreover, the company has significantly bolstered its presence in international markets, which now account for over one-third of its total revenue. Key markets include the UK, Germany, the Netherlands, Poland, and regions in Northern Europe, as well as Australia and the US.

Fondo Italiano sees this investment as a catalyst for a new phase of development. Key priorities include expanding Alimenta’s international footprint—particularly in the pinsa category, which contributes approximately 30% to the group’s turnover—and consolidating its position in the domestic market.

The developmental plan also encompasses launching new product ranges that utilize Altograno flour, recognized for its high natural protein and fiber content. This initiative has been created in collaboration with Molino Casillo, a prominent flour and semolina producer based in Apulia, for which Alimenta holds exclusive licensing rights within relevant segments.

Furthermore, the shared strategic vision aims to enhance focus on the Horeca channel, tapping into rising food and drink consumer trends.

The completion of this significant deal is expected in the first half of 2026. By aligning with the evolving demands of the food and drink business, Alimenta positions itself for sustained growth in the competitive landscape of the food and beverage industry.
