Brands with personalized packaging are experiencing a remarkable 40% growth rate, surpassing their counterparts. With O-I’s innovative solution, drinks companies can now offer their customers collectable bottles from a single source file, without the need for any mold or label changes.

Our service provides brand owners with various options during the same print run, which include:

  • Modifying the graphics on the bottle
  • Altering the colors within the graphic design
  • Changing the name or a word on the bottle
  • Utilizing different customized tactile digitally printed effects with O-I: Expressions Relief
  • Serialization of bottles, such as applying sequential numbers for limited editions or incorporating an individual fixed code (e.g., QR or 2D datamatrix code) that unlocks an online experience

Melianthe Leeman, O-I’s global marketing director for wines and spirits, stated, “We believe that O-I: Expressions Signature offers significant opportunities not only for premium and luxury special editions but also for global brands. They can produce a single run of a common bottle shape and create culturally appropriate designs for different markets within the same print run.”

Leeman emphasized the growing popularity of gifting in the spirits and wines industry, with consumers increasingly seeking unique and personalized options.

She further added, “Previously, we had to have multiple printing stations to handle various designs simultaneously, albeit sequentially. However, now, if a customer requests two million bottles with different names, we can create a database and print them individually on the same production line.”

This capability applies to both text and images, as showcased during London Packaging Week.

O-I has several projects in the pipeline with various brands, which are set to launch soon, according to Leeman.

She also mentioned that consumer research has shown positive feedback, with consumers willing to pay extra for personalized gifting in this sector.

During last week’s London Packaging Week at the Excel, sample bottles were distributed, each printed in different colors and featuring a vertically embossed city name using transparent relief printing. Additionally, a QR code was included, allowing users to visit the O-I: Expressions website.
