The campaign will begin on 21 September 2023 and continue until 1 November 2023 in Spar stores across the UK.

FareShare, the UK’s longest running food redistribution charity, firmly believes that no good food should go to waste, particularly when there are people who are hungry.

According to the charity, there are currently seven million individuals in the UK who are struggling to afford proper meals. This represents approximately 1 in 10 of the country’s population.

Suzanne Dover, Spar UK’s brand and marketing director, stated, “Our partnership with FareShare will involve a donation of £250,000. For every £1 contributed, FareShare can distribute enough food to provide four meals to those in need throughout the UK.”

“We firmly believe in supporting the communities we serve, and this partnership ensures that individuals won’t have to go without the essential everyday items we all rely on,” Dover continued.

In Spar’s inaugural One Million Meals campaign, Britvic and Coca-Cola are also participating. The campaign will highlight Spar’s own label products, as well as store cupboard staples like Robinsons squash and Coke Zero, with POS materials.

Additionally, there will be content available across various digital channels. Blog posts and TikTok content creators will be utilized to bring the campaign to life.

Polly Bianchi, director of fundraising at FareShare, added, “The Giving One Million Meals donation from Spar, along with contributions from Coca-Cola and Robinsons, will make a significant impact on our efforts to ensure that good-to-eat food, which might otherwise be wasted, reaches those in need.”

“As the winter months approach, our network of 8,500 charities across the UK will be working tirelessly to provide hearty and nourishing meals to people in their communities,” Bianchi noted.

“Each organization provides crucial support services to individuals affected by the cost of living crisis, and Spar’s contribution will greatly strengthen these communities.”
