Finnish retailer and wholesaler Kesko is advancing plans for an automated foodservice distribution centre in Nurmijärvi, Finland.
Construction on the facility started in early 2026. Once completed, it will operate as a central warehouse supporting Kesko’s hotel, restaurant and catering operations.
The planned intralogistics solution will combine automated pallet movement, high-bay warehousing, shuttle storage and goods-to-person picking for smaller products. KNAPP has been appointed to provide the automation technology for the centre’s first development phase.
KNAPP said the system will be capable of accommodating changing requirements and increased order volumes over time.
Pekka Tala, development director at Kesko, said: “We are building an automation solution designed to serve our business for decades to come.
“That is why it was important for us to find a solution that not only meets today’s needs, but also enables us to develop our operations in the future.”
Work on the detailed design of the automated logistics system is now getting under way, while installation is planned to begin in 2028.
Kesko expects the new foodservice logistics centre to be brought into operation progressively between 2029 and 2030.
