Lotus Bakeries has commenced construction of a new hall at its main manufacturing site in Lembeke, Belgium, in a strategic move to boost production of its popular Biscoff products.
The company anticipates that operations in this new facility will commence “within two years.” This expansion aims to enhance the capacity at the Lembeke factory, a site that has been producing Biscoff for over 90 years, primarily serving the European markets. Interestingly, Lotus Bakeries has not disclosed specific figures regarding the expected increase in production capacity or the number of new full-time jobs that will be created.
Aside from its Belgian operations, Lotus Bakeries also operates factories in Thailand and the United States, producing Biscoff products for the Asia-Pacific region and the Americas. In a recent statement, CEO Jan Boone remarked that this expansion feels like “a very natural next step in the globalization of Biscoff.”
This development follows a robust performance in 2025, with the company’s group revenue increasing by 10% to €1.35 billion ($1.57 billion). Operating profit rose by 13% to €227.6 million, while net profit also saw a 13% increase, reaching €172.3 million.
Notably, Biscoff sales made up 57% of the group’s branded revenue, totaling €670 million in 2025—a 13% organic growth. Lotus Bakeries credited this success to volume growth and its strategic partnerships, particularly with Mondelez International as detailed in <ahref=”https://www.just-food.com/news/mondelez-to-produce-biscoff-biscuits-in-india-under-lotus-bakeries-partnership/” target=”_blank”>this link.
The company recently shipped its inaugural biscuits from a new greenfield plant in Chonburi, Thailand, which is set to become fully operational by the end of the first half of 2026.
Furthermore, in commentary accompanying the results, Boone emphasized, “Capacity investments continue to be a priority in our capital allocation strategy.” For the years 2026 and 2027 combined, Lotus Bakeries plans to invest approximately €250 million in capital expenditures, slightly exceeding the €240 million invested in 2024 and 2025.
As the food and beverage industry continues to evolve, companies like Lotus Bakeries are staying agile, responding to emerging food and drink consumer trends, while solidifying their standing in the competitive food and drink business landscape.
