Sainsbury's Unveils a Variety of New High-Protein Products Alongside Its 'Small but Mighty' Range Food and Beverage Business

Sainsbury’s has recently unveiled two new product ranges, the ‘High Protein’ line and the ‘Small but Mighty’ selection, reflecting current trends in the food and beverage industry.

Over the past few years, protein has steadily ascended in consumer preference. Influencers are generating extensive content highlighting protein-rich products, prompting brands to accelerate their own launches in response.

Importantly, the interest in high protein products shows no signs of waning. In fact, searches for ‘high protein’ on Sainsbury’s online platform have surged by 57% year-on-year. Consequently, the retailer has introduced 19 new SKUs aimed at delivering that essential protein boost.

Notably, Sainsbury’s has experienced a remarkable 300% year-on-year increase in demand for ‘high protein ready meals.’ To address this surge, they have included six nutritious meals in the new range.

Among the offerings are ‘by Sainsbury’s High Protein Pesto Chicken Tortiglioni’ providing 35g of protein, and ‘by Sainsbury’s High Protein Beef Bolognese Tagliatelle’ with 33g of protein.

These meals are priced at £3.75 for 400g, ensuring each option contains at least 31g of protein while remaining under 500 calories. This positions Sainsbury’s strategically within the current food manufacturing trends.

Additionally, high protein wraps, salads, and sandwiches have been launched in the food-to-go segment, qualifying for the £3.95 meal deal. New introductions include the ‘by Sainsbury’s High Protein Buffalo Chicken Wrap,’ ‘by Sainsbury’s High Protein Chicken & Grain Salad,’ and ‘by Sainsbury’s High Protein Halloumi Fajita Wrap’—each containing over 21g of protein per serving.

In the breakfast aisle, consumers can now find ‘High Protein Porridge Pots’ (up to 15g protein) for 90p, ‘High Protein Strained Natural Yogurts’ priced at £1.95 (23g protein), as well as ‘by Sainsbury’s High Protein Granola’ and ‘Cereal Clusters’ starting at £2.70.

This month, selected stores and online offerings will feature a range of high protein bakery items. These include six ‘High Protein Tortilla Wraps’ for £1.70 (10g protein), six ‘High Protein Plain Folded Flatbreads’ at £1.80 (6g protein), and four ‘High Protein Buttermilk Pancakes’ for £1.75 (8g protein). Moreover, four High Protein Seeded White Rolls (12g protein) will become available later this year at £1.50.

Joining the high protein launch is Sainsbury’s new ‘Small but Mighty’ range, offering nutrient-dense meals tailored for those with reduced appetites.

Developed in collaboration with a specialized registered dietitian, Sainsbury’s nutritionists, and product developers, each ‘Small but Mighty’ meal contains fewer than 350 calories, a minimum of 20g of protein, is fiber-rich, and contributes to one of your five-a-day goals.

Priced at £3.00 for 300g, this new range includes options such as ‘by Sainsbury’s Small But Mighty Teriyaki Chicken with Wholewheat Noodles & Edamame’ (23g protein), ‘Spiced Fajita Chicken with Brown Rice & Pearl Barley’ (22g protein), ‘Beef & Bean Chilli with Brown Rice & Quinoa’ (20g protein), and ‘Creamy Chicken & Mushroom with Roasted Sweet Potato’ (20g protein).

Making it easier for everyone to enjoy good food is something that matters to us at Sainsbury’s. We understand people have different nutritional needs, appetites and tastes and that continues to guide how we develop our products,” stated James Campbell, Sainsbury’s director of fresh product innovation.

“From protein-packed breakfasts and ready-to-go lunches to smaller, nutrient-rich meals, our new High Protein and ‘Small but Mighty’ ranges are designed to offer people convenient, delicious food that they can enjoy with confidence, day in and day out.”
