MonoFlex, Aran’s innovative Bag-in-Box solution for liquid food products, has proudly secured the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) 2026 World Star Award. This recognition underscores its significant contribution to sustainable and high-performance food and drink packaging.
As a pioneering fully recyclable high-barrier solution, MonoFlex establishes a new benchmark for liquid food packaging. By integrating advanced material engineering with Design for Recycling principles, the MonoFlex Bag-in-Box accommodates packaging capacities ranging from 3 to 20 liters and is crafted from over 95% polyethylene (PE), featuring a thin EVOH barrier layer.
High Performance Without Compromising Recyclability
This mono-material design ensures exceptional protection against oxygen and moisture while being fully recyclable in standard PE recycling streams. By eliminating metallization and complicated multilayer laminations commonly found in high-barrier packaging, MonoFlex resolves the longstanding industry dilemma between performance and recyclability.
Moreover, this packaging solution provides outstanding mechanical strength and puncture resistance, ensuring product integrity during long-distance transport and prolonged storage. Its integrated fitment spout effectively minimizes oxygen ingress during dispensing, preserving freshness and extending shelf life. This characteristic is particularly crucial for oxygen-sensitive products such as wine, condiments, and various liquid foods, where quality degradation can result in substantial food waste.
Versatility Across Liquid Foods
MonoFlex has undergone successful testing with numerous liquid food products, including wine, mayonnaise, and ketchup. This versatility demonstrates its adaptability across multiple food and drink categories.
Sustainability and Efficiency
The flexible design of MonoFlex significantly reduces packaging weight and volume when compared to rigid containers. This improvement enhances storage efficiency and minimizes transportation-related emissions. By prolonging freshness and allowing for controlled dispensing, the bag aids in preventing food loss and diminishes waste at both industrial and consumer levels. The solution aligns with European regulatory frameworks and achieves an “A” rating under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Its mono-PE construction fosters source reduction, energy-efficient logistics, and end-of-life recovery, contributing to a lower carbon footprint and responsible resource management.
The recognition from the WPO positions MonoFlex as a practical and scalable choice for food producers striving to meet rising expectations for sustainable packaging. By extending shelf life, reducing product spoilage, and ensuring full recyclability, MonoFlex exemplifies how strategic packaging design can yield tangible benefits for manufacturers, consumers, and the environment alike.
