Sysco GB, a prominent UK foodservice wholesaler, has successfully acquired the wholesale catering butcher, Fairfax Meadow, from Hilton Foods.

This acquisition signifies a pivotal moment in Sysco GB’s strategic growth plan, aimed at enhancing its centre of plate offerings and establishing itself as the “UK’s leading fresh meat supplier to the foodservice sector.” This move not only underscores Sysco GB’s commitment to excellence but also positions the company for significant expansion within the industry.

Fairfax Meadow has been operating for over 50 years and employs around 360 skilled professionals. Its headquarters are strategically located in Derby, Enfield, and Eastleigh, serving as production and distribution hubs that contribute to its operational success.

According to reports, this acquisition will “add additional meat manufacturing capability to Sysco GB.” It builds upon Sysco GB’s recent acquisition of Campbell’s Prime Meat, which operates across Scotland and the northern regions of England. Together, these acquisitions will create an “unrivalled national meat distribution network,” enhancing Sysco GB’s service offerings and market reach.

“This acquisition acknowledges and further strengthens our position as one of the market leading meat suppliers.”

In a statement regarding the acquisition, Paul Nieduszynski, CEO of Sysco GB, expressed enthusiasm about the addition of Fairfax Meadow to the Sysco family. He stated, “We are delighted that Fairfax Meadow will be joining the Sysco family. We have a strategic focus on providing the best centre of plate offer in foodservice, and the acquisition of Fairfax Meadow is a crucial next step in our plan to build leadership in the critical meat category.”

He further emphasized, “Fairfax Meadow is a great business with skilled and experienced colleagues and a superb reputation for producing quality meat, combined with great levels of service.” This statement highlights Sysco GB’s dedication to maintaining high standards throughout its operations.

Paul continued, “We believe this is a complementary fit for Sysco GB, strengthening our fresh meat proposition across the country and bringing even greater value to our customers.” This sentiment is reflective of Sysco GB’s strategic vision to enhance customer experience and satisfaction.

Penny Tomlinson, the managing director at Fairfax Meadow, also commented on the acquisition, stating, “This acquisition acknowledges and further strengthens our position as one of the market leading meat suppliers to the foodservice industry.” Her insights affirm the value that this merger brings not only to both companies but also to the wider foodservice community.

She added, “Sysco GB is a business with a deep-rooted understanding and unparalleled reach within the fast-moving foodservice sector. We are proud to bring our extensive meat industry knowledge and team expertise to complement Sysco GB’s existing strengths.” This collaboration is poised to create a more robust offering for customers across the sector.

Penny concluded by stating, “I look forward to continuing to lead the business with my experienced and loyal team, ensuring a seamless transition for all customers and stakeholders.” Such leadership will be crucial in maintaining operational integrity during this transformative phase.

Notably, Fairfax Meadow will continue to operate as a separate entity post-acquisition. However, with this integration, it will benefit from “specialist foodservice support” provided by Sysco’s operating companies. This will open new routes to market, while simultaneously leveraging Fairfax Meadow’s extensive meat processing expertise.
