Alternative proteins manufacturer Enough has raised €40 million in growth funding co-led by World Fund, a European climate tech VC, and food tech investor CPT Capital. This investment will support the expansion of Enough’s production capabilities and the development of its proprietary Abunda mycoprotein.

Enough utilizes sustainable fermentation technology to produce mycoproteins, which serve as alternative ingredient proteins for companies such as The Vegetarian Butcher. By feeding fungi with sugars from sustainably sourced grain, Enough can produce large-scale sustainable protein, contributing to the global demand for alternative meat products.

Expanding Production Facilities

To meet growing demand, Enough has opened a protein factory in Sas van Gent, Netherlands, located adjacent to a Cargill facility. This strategic location ensures an efficient feed source and supports Enough’s zero-waste strategy for Abunda production.

Jim Laird, co-founder and CEO of Enough, expressed excitement about this progress: “Our new factory in the Netherlands allows us to work with customers in the UK and Europe. With the additional funding, we will accelerate our growth and leading position in the alternative protein market. Embracing non-animal protein sources is more important than ever due to ethical and environmental reasons.”

The factory currently produces 10,000 metric tonnes of Abunda mycoprotein per year, but plans to scale up to over 60,000 tonnes annually, equivalent to producing one cow’s worth of protein every two minutes.

Investing in Growth

With this latest funding, Enough has raised over €95 million in total. The company will utilize the funding to not only expand its factory capacity but also to grow its teams in Glasgow, London, and Sas van Gent offices.

Craig Douglas, founding partner at World Fund, expressed support for Enough’s sustainable protein production: “Enough exemplifies sustainable practices, addressing bottlenecks in the creation of sustainable protein while minimizing resource use and maintaining a zero-waste process. Their work has the potential to combat food scarcity, reduce industry resource consumption, and lower emissions globally.”

Enough aims to produce cumulatively over one million tonnes of Abunda mycoprotein by 2032, contributing to the ongoing food revolution and the need for more sustainable protein sources.
