KAY Sake Reinvents Tradition with a Modern Twist on Japanese Beverage

KAY Sake breaks traditions and gives Japanese beverage contemporary spin

Smooth and expertly crafted, KAY Sake is the innovative beverage redefining tradition, now available as a modern aperitif.

According to KAY Sake, this refined and versatile sake delivers bold flavors paired with a sleek, globally recognizable design.

Many consumers encounter challenges with Japanese labeling, often feeling uncertain about how to select and serve sake. KAY Sake demystifies the beverage with its contemporary bottle design and remarkably versatile serving options that blend Eastern tradition with Western style, ensuring enjoyment for everyone.

Originating from the stunning landscape of Niigata, Japan, KAY Sake “celebrates purity.” This offering provides consumers with a gluten-free aperitif option that features lower alcohol content, free of sulphites and additives. Whether served on the rocks, neat, or as a low-ABV ingredient in exquisite cocktails, KAY Sake offers curious and mindful drinkers a delicate alternative to traditional spirits.

Crafted at the prestigious Aumont Brewery, founded in the 1790s, KAY Sake is overseen by an expert master brewer, Tanaka-Toji. Each bottle is brewed using the finest local rice and the crystal-clear waters of the Kaji River, flowing from the majestic Iide mountains.

The region benefits from clean, fresh air and ideal winter conditions, characterized by low temperatures and moderate snowfall, creating the perfect environment for the meticulous sake crafting process.

KAY Sake’s bottle design, curated by renowned designer Marcel Wanders, captures the essence of Niigata. Known for collaborations with Fendi, Alessi, and Baccarat, Wanders drew inspiration from Echigo’s pure waters flowing into the Kaji River, merging Niigata’s beauty with the sake brewing process into a unique design philosophy.

“The air is light, and our spirits are lighter than ever. KAY Sake was born from a dream and a pure interest. It is inspired by Niigata’s terroir, fine qualities and of course the traditions, practices, and beautiful surroundings of Aumont Brewery,” explains Marcel Wanders, the creative vision behind KAY Sake.

KAY Sake occupies a prestigious position within the highest quality sake category, Junmai Daiginjo. This all-natural, velvety smooth beverage is achieved by polishing away 50% of the rice kernel to reveal its refined flavors. The experience begins with fragrant, crisp aromas and fruity notes of fresh green apple and pear, finishing with a subtle touch of umami.

Composed of only three ingredients—water, (malted) rice, and yeast—and boasting an alcohol content of 15.8%, this sake is the ideal aperitif for health-conscious consumers. Additionally, KAY Sake has received a Gold Medal from the judges of the Milano Sake Challenge 2024.
