FDF Scotland has announced the launch of the Reformul8 Challenge Fund, which aims to support Scottish food manufacturers in creating healthier food options. The fund, totaling £50,000, is made possible through funding received from Scotland Food & Drink and is open to small and medium sized food and drink businesses across Scotland. This initiative reflects the growing consumer demand for healthier food options and the importance of meeting public health targets.

The fund provides up to £5,000 for each successful business, which can be utilized for various activities such as nutritional testing, technical support, and sourcing new innovative solutions to improve the health of products. Winners of the fund will be announced at a showcase event, ‘Celebrating Reformulation and Innovation for Health’, hosted by FDF Scotland and Interface at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh on Monday 26th February 2024.

Through the Reformul8 Challenge Fund, FDF Scotland has already supported 46 businesses in previous rounds. This has led to the development of healthier products by industry leaders such as Bells Food Group, Simon Howie, and Border Biscuits. The deadline for businesses to apply for the fund is Friday 16th February 2024.

Joanna Burns, the reformulation for health manager at FDF Scotland, expressed her enthusiasm for supporting more Scottish food and drink manufacturers through the Fund. “Creating a wider range of healthier products can help food businesses to meet growing consumer demand for healthier options and to achieve public health targets. The fund is a great way to help businesses kick start their reformulation journey.” Businesses interested in applying for the fund can do so through a dedicated survey link provided by FDF Scotland.

Overall, the Reformul8 Challenge Fund is an essential initiative that supports the development of healthier food and drink options, benefiting both businesses and consumers in Scotland. It serves as a catalyst for promoting innovation and reformulation within the industry, ultimately contributing to the improvement of public health.
