Food and Drink Wales has made an announcement regarding its industry board, appointing six new members to join its ranks. These individuals will be working closely with both the Welsh Government and businesses across the country in order to further the growth, promotion, and enhancement of the reputation of the Welsh food and drink sector, both domestically and internationally.

Heading the board is Professor David Lloyd, the current director of the Food Industry Centre. With a background in technical director roles at various food companies, he brings a wealth of expertise and experience to his new position and will be collaborating closely with the private sector and Welsh Government.

Joining Professor Lloyd as the deputy chair of the board is Alison Lea-Wilson, co-owner of The Anglesey Sea Salt Co Ltd. Established in 1997, the company now exports its products to approximately 15 countries worldwide, showcasing the success of Welsh food and drink on a global scale.

Rounding out the newly appointed board members are Alison Harvey, Andy Richardson, Graham Black, and Valerie Creusailor, all of whom bring their own unique talents and perspectives to further cultivate the sector’s growth and success.

Lesley Griffiths, the Rural Affairs Minister, praised the continued success of Welsh food and drink, citing record-high exports totaling £797 million in 2022. The appointment of new board members, with their diverse range of skills and experience, is poised to contribute to further growth in the industry.

Addressing his new role, David Lloyd expressed his honor in being selected as the chair of the Welsh Food and Drink Industry Board during this pivotal time for the sector in Wales. He underscored the enthusiasm of the new board members to utilize their expertise and knowledge to champion Welsh food and drink and capitalize on market opportunities at local, national, and international levels.

In alignment with the Welsh Government, the board members are committed to cultivating existing partnerships with industry stakeholders and establishing new connections within the food and drink supply chain, ultimately advancing the sector’s development and success.
