Berglandmilch has announced significant investments aimed at enhancing production capabilities to capitalize on the “rapidly growing” sectors of Austria’s dairy market.
The company is expanding its facility located in Aschbach, situated in the northern region of the country. Construction has commenced, and the project is scheduled for completion by January. Once operational, this facility will produce 15,000 tons of quark and 7,000 tons of cream cheese annually.
“We see that quark and cream cheese are rapidly growing segments. These products are continuously gaining in importance, especially among young consumers. That’s why we are investing specifically in this area and continuously developing our product range,” remarked Josef Braunshofer, Managing Director of Berglandmilch.
The Aschbach location stands as the largest among Berglandmilch’s eight facilities across Austria, which also produce a range of products including cream cheese, butter, yogurt, sour cream, and milk.
Berglandmilch is the leading dairy cooperative in Austria, employing approximately 1,500 individuals. Its portfolio features well-known brands such as Schärdinger, Desserta, and Tirol Milch. In 2024, the cooperative reported revenues of €1.3 billion ($1.6 billion).
Recently, Lactalis made headlines by announcing plans to invest in quark production at one of its facilities in Germany.
