Warburtons, a prominent bakery brand in the UK, has signed a pre-let agreement for a new bespoke 65,847ft² distribution centre at Symmetry Park Biggleswade in Central Bedfordshire. The company has committed to a 25-year lease on the facility, which will feature office space, on-site EV charging facilities, and solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays.

Currently producing over two million products daily at its 11 bakeries, Warburtons holds a significant 20% volume share of the total wrapped bakery market, as reported by The Nielsen Company. The company distributes these products fresh from its 18 UK depots to 18,500 stores each morning, spanning locations from Aberdeen to Newton Abbot.

Jim Norton, head of distribution network transformation at Warburtons, emphasized the importance of innovation and sustainability in the company’s operations. He stated, “Our new depot at Symmetry Park Biggleswade will be a highly sustainable building that aligns with our core values, allowing us to serve more stores efficiently.”

Situated within Stratton Business Park, Symmetry Park Biggleswade spans approximately 150 acres. Developer Tritax Symmetry plans to deliver five buildings in total, with unit sizes ranging from 139,50ft² to 287,200ft². The development’s Phase 3, which includes 927,000ft² of highly sustainable logistics space, is scheduled to commence in Q4 2024.

Phase 3 of Symmetry Park Biggleswade will bring forth new opportunities for businesses seeking net zero carbon construction. Pre-lettings are currently available for the remaining plots, presenting a chance for companies to secure spaces ranging from 139,500ft² to 287,200ft².

Notable tenants at Symmetry Park Biggleswade include the Co-operative Group, Bidfood, Bond International, Bowman Ingredients, and Noatum Logistics. Steven Watkins, executive member for business, housing, and public assets at Central Bedfordshire Council, highlighted the area’s appeal to high-profile businesses, creating job opportunities for the local community.
