Food and drink sustainability is a growing concern in the industry, with a focus on sustainable packaging solutions to reduce environmental impact. One such innovative product is the ReZorce beverage carton, developed in collaboration with Refresco, a leading beverage solutions provider. These cartons are designed to address the challenges of traditional packaging materials, offering a more environmentally friendly alternative.

According to Zotefoams, the company behind ReZorce, life cycle assessments have shown significant reductions in energy and water usage compared to traditional liquid packaging board cartons. Additionally, the global warming potential of ReZorce cartons is 55% lower, making them a more sustainable option for consumers. The development of ReZorce aligns with current and forthcoming legislation aimed at promoting a circular economy.

At a recent media update, sustainability advocate Paul Polman endorsed the ReZorce pack for its potential to introduce circularity into the market. He emphasized the importance of materials and design simplicity in driving a circular economy. Moreover, Polman highlighted the significance of ensuring that products are not just recyclable but actually recycled to make a real impact on sustainability.

Neil Court-Johnston, President of Zotefoams’ MuCell Extrusion LLC, discussed the journey from concept to commercialization of ReZorce, emphasizing the need for innovation in the beverage carton industry. With billions of beverage cartons used globally each year, addressing sustainability in this sector is crucial.

The production of ReZorce cartons is already underway at Refresco’s facilities in Europe, with plans to scale up production in collaboration with Südpack, a polymer extrusion specialist. Dirk Hardow, Chief Executive at Südpack, highlighted the company’s contribution to fulfilling EU packaging directives through functional film technology.

David Stirling, Zotefoams Group chief executive, expressed pride in the momentum of the ReZorce project. He emphasized the commitment of retailers and brand owners to adopt sustainable alternatives, with ReZorce meeting the criteria of recyclability, recycled content, and a lower carbon footprint.

Overall, the collaboration between Zotefoams, Refresco, and Südpack exemplifies the industry’s shift towards sustainable packaging solutions. The development of ReZorce signifies a significant step forward in promoting food and drink sustainability while meeting consumer trends and regulatory requirements.
