TIPA, a prominent leader in sustainable and compostable packaging solutions, has partnered with Presto Products Co., a renowned North American supplier of Fresh-Lock® press-to-close and slider closures for flexible packaging. Together, they are proud to announce the release of innovative home compostable closures now available for the European and Asia-Pacific (APAC) markets. These certified zippers are specifically designed for commercial pouch applications, enhancing options in food and drink packaging.

Crafted to biodegrade effectively in composting conditions, these closures contribute to waste reduction while ensuring robust reclosability for optimal product security and extended shelf life. They are suitable for a wide range of flexible pouch applications, including dry food, nutraceuticals, vitamins, and various types of apparel packaging.

The cutting-edge zippers incorporate Fresh-Lock® closure technology and leverage TIPA’s unique home compostable formulations. Available on reels, these solutions are compatible with various form, fill, and seal equipment types, making them immensely versatile.

This collaboration addresses a critical challenge in the industry: the prevalent use of multi-material structures in standard reclosable pouches, which are typically non-recyclable. The emergence of compostable innovations like this partnership provides a sustainable alternative by enabling all components of packaging—including closures—to be home compostable.

Tipa 8035 is the inaugural closure offered from this series, featuring an 11mm single-lock press-to-close zipper, tailored for light to medium pouch solutions and compatible with numerous legacy applications. Coupled with their certified home compostable films and laminates, these materials optimize compatibility and enhance processing efficiency.

The introduction of the new zipper to the European and APAC markets follows its recent launch in the United States, marking a crucial expansion of the companies’ portfolios in regions where the demand for sustainable packaging solutions is rapidly increasing.

“We’re committed to developing packaging solutions that make it easier for businesses and consumers to adopt truly sustainable alternatives to curb the global plastic waste crisis,” said Daphna Nissenbaum, CEO at TIPA. “This development exemplifies our mission to replace traditional plastics with materials that function effectively and decompose naturally at the end of their lifecycle, leaving no waste behind.”

“TIPA’s expertise in compostable materials combined with Fresh-Lock’s position as a high-quality, reliable innovator in sustainable reclosable solutions creates an unparalleled combination to expand compostable packaging in key markets that are eager for eco-friendly options,” stated Todd Meussling, Director of Business Development and Sustainability with the Fresh-Lock team.
