The packaging solution Lightwing™ 30 on the Tetra Brik® 1000 Edge from Tetra Pak has been recognized by the Swedish Rheumatism Association for addressing challenges common to traditional screw caps. This innovative snap-on closure improves usability, particularly benefiting those with limited grip strength by providing a more intuitive opening mechanism and a reliable seal. “Being nominated by the Swedish Rheumatism Association is a recognition that means a great deal to us,” stated Marie Sandin, Managing Director of Tetra Pak Sweden.

Traditional screw caps can pose significant difficulties for individuals who struggle with pinch grip strength. The ribbed surfaces can create ambiguous resistance, and excessive force may lead to slipping, resulting in discomfort or pain.

In contrast, the Lightwing™ 30 cap features a user-friendly design, including a large opening tab for various grip methods. Users can lift the cap with one or both thumbs, use the side of a thumb, or employ different fingers to easily access the contents, making it feasible to use with just one hand. Closing the package is equally straightforward; the cap’s smooth underside minimizes misalignment risk, and a gentle press is sufficient to secure it.

“Screw caps can be difficult to open if you have reduced pinch grip strength. This packaging opens in a different way and features a ‘lip’ that allows several alternative grips to be used. We have received feedback from our members that it works well for them, and packaging with tethered caps that actually works effectively deserves recognition,” remarked Stina Nordström, Secretary General of the Swedish Rheumatism Association.

“This nomination from the Swedish Rheumatism Association is an important acknowledgment for us. When Ruben Rausing established Tetra Pak 75 years ago, his vision was to simplify everyday life by transitioning from cumbersome glass containers to intelligent paper-based packaging for daily liquid foods like milk and cream. Since then, our packaging solutions have diversified across numerous product categories, yet our commitment remains: to ensure food safety, accessibility, and ease of use. When we innovate, we aim to balance functionality, user-friendliness, and sustainability because the best packaging solutions benefit both consumers and the environment,” explained Marie Sandin.
