On the occasion of the United Nations’ World Environment Day on 5 June, Tetra Pak released its Sustainability Report FY23, showcasing significant achievements in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The report highlights a 20% decrease in value chain emissions and a notable 47% reduction in emissions from its own operations since 2019.
Furthermore, the report indicates a commendable 7% rise in the collection and recycling of carton packages worldwide compared to the previous year. Additionally, there was a 14% increase in the recycling of polyAl, demonstrating Tetra Pak’s commitment to sustainability goals.
These accomplishments align Tetra Pak with its target of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions in its operations by 2030. The company also aims to collaborate with stakeholders to achieve net-zero emissions across the value chain by 2050.
A significant milestone for Tetra Pak was the launch of an aseptic beverage carton featuring a paper-based barrier, reducing its carbon footprint by a substantial 33%. This innovation represents a step closer to developing the most sustainable food package globally.
Adolfo Orive, President & CEO of Tetra Pak, emphasized the importance of collaboration in the food industry to sustainably feed a growing population. He reiterated Tetra Pak’s dedication to transforming the world’s food systems to enhance security, resiliency, and sustainability.
The company’s commitment to sustainability is evident through its substantial investment of €100 million in packaging research and development in 2023, with plans for continued annual investment in the coming years. Tetra Pak’s holistic approach, engaging stakeholders across the value chain, underscores its role in driving positive change within the food and beverage industry.
