Understanding the Importance of Time-Temperature Indicators in Reducing Food Waste

In a recent survey conducted with 1,500 participants, it was found that 46% of respondents expressed confusion regarding current labeling on packaging. However, a remarkable 82% of those surveyed are actively taking measures to minimize food waste within their households.

Furthermore, an alarming 48% estimated that they discard approximately £260 worth of food each year due to best before labeling, with 16% acknowledging even higher wastage of up to £520.

HelloFresh, a leading meal kit delivery company, has recognized the need for change in the industry and believes that their time-temperature indicator (TTI) provides a significant solution. In collaboration with Keep-It, they have successfully introduced the TTI label in the Netherlands and Germany. Trials conducted in 2020 and 2021 have shown a promising reduction in food waste by 15%.

Adam Park, the CEO of HelloFresh UK, emphasizes the company’s commitment to promoting sustainable eating habits and reducing food waste. Park states, “Implementing the time-temperature indicators not only benefits our customers, but also contributes to safeguarding our planet.” He further emphasizes that these indicators adhere to the highest safety standards and enhance the overall dining experience without compromising on flavor.

Considering the potential impact of this innovative technology, Park believes that the UK has an opportunity to become a leader in supporting such advancements. HelloFresh UK eagerly awaits regulatory approval to implement the time-temperature indicators, starting with their fish products.
