Südpack sees the expanding yoghurt drink category as a major opportunity for its latest packaging solution. The market is projected to increase from $4.6 billion to $6.7 billion by 2034, with Europe already representing 30% of global sales.
PET bottles and cups remain the leading packaging formats, together holding a 44% share of the yoghurt drink market. However, according to Südpack, flexible pouches are recording the strongest growth within the sector.
The company highlights several practical advantages of flexible packaging for yoghurt drinks, including simple opening, reliable resealing, and clean, convenient use. The pouches can also be squeezed to remove nearly all of the product and are relatively easy for consumers to handle.
CarbonLite PurePP, the material selected for the new pack, is polypropylene-based. Südpack points to its established sealing capability, dependable spout integration, leak resistance, and “excellent machinability” as key performance benefits. The company adds that the format provides a shelf life comparable to that of more established packaging options.
Südpack further reports that the pouch can enter the mechanical PP recycling stream because both the pack body and the spout are manufactured from polypropylene. The packaging solution is said to deliver a recycling rate of “more than 95%.”
In addition, Südpack’s own calculations indicate that the “CO2e footprint per square meter of a PP-based spouted pouch with a film thickness of 111 μm is more than 40% lower than that of a 103 μm PET/aluminum/PE laminate.”
