SIG, a prominent provider of packaging solutions featuring an innovative range of aseptic cartons, bag-in-box, and spouted pouches, is set to broaden its “Recycle for Good” initiative to Vietnam. This program introduces a successful education-driven approach for collecting and recycling cartons in Bac Ninh, one of the nation’s rapidly developing regions. With support from the SIG Foundation, the effort aims to foster behavioral changes, motivate the public to gather recyclable materials, bolster local recycling systems, and promote a circular economy.

Initially launched in Jakarta, Indonesia, in 2023, Recycle for Good is now expanding into other regions where SIG operates. In Vietnam, SIG will partner with the Bac Ninh Province Department of Education and Training along with Lagom, its waste management collaborator, to instigate changes in waste behavior and facilitate the collection of empty milk cartons in preschools and primary schools across Bac Ninh.

Bac Ninh, recognized as a key industrial center in Northern Vietnam, is also the site of a significant school milk initiative that began in 2025 and is expected to serve over one million students until at least 2030.

Thanks to the Recycle for Good program, discarded milk cartons will be gathered at schools and sent for recycling at a paper mill. The recycled pulp can then be used to create various paper products. Meanwhile, the separated PolyAl material will be transformed into items such as clothing hangers, flowerpots, and building panels at Lagom’s PolyAl processing facility.

The launch of the Recycle for Good program in Vietnam comes at a time when effective waste management is increasingly critical due to rapid urban growth and rising consumption, which have led to an upsurge in waste, especially from product packaging. Currently, a significant portion of the country’s waste is either landfilled or openly burned, raising environmental and health issues compounded by low public knowledge about recycling. SIG’s initiative aims to bridge this gap by making waste collection more practical and visible, starting at the grassroots level.

“Through our collaborations, the SIG Foundation focuses on initiatives that enhance community welfare and foster positive environmental outcomes,” stated Holger Dickers, Managing Director of SIG Foundation. “Launching Recycle for Good in Vietnam allows us to educate young individuals about the importance of collecting and returning used beverage cartons for recycling—a simple act that can inspire enduring change in behavior. As the program expands, our goal is to engage even more participants in building a sustainable future.”

Nicolas Tan Yuan Hsing, Head of Markets for Malaysia, Vietnam, and the Philippines at SIG, expressed that the project in Vietnam is poised to benefit the students and empower them to advocate for change, encouraging their families and peers to adopt recycling practices.

Le Trung Thong, Director of Lagom, and Do Thanh Vinh, Project Manager at the Bac Ninh Province Department of Education and Training, commented: “We are honored to play a crucial role in SIG’s Recycle for Good program in Vietnam. We are confident that we can collectively make significant strides in fostering recycling initiatives and promoting more sustainable lifestyle choices.”
