Ragus Sugars, a leading sugar manufacturer, has successfully reduced its plastic packaging by 50% through a sustainable and innovative approach to packaging. This achievement was made possible by partnering with Lindum, a company specializing in pallet stability and stretch film wrap to enhance packaging performance and reduce CO2 emissions.

In a move to prioritize sustainability, Ragus appointed Lindum to review its current pallet wrap and recommend alternative packaging films that are environmentally friendly while ensuring pallet stability during transit. After an in-depth audit, Lindum introduced Ragus Sugars to Bio, a new high-strength bio-based plastic wrap made from natural polymers found in sugar cane. This innovative solution not only reduced CO² impact by 40% compared to petroleum-based stretch film, but also eliminated Plastic Packaging Tax liability without sacrificing performance.

Rick Sellars, Sales Manager at Lindum, explained that the Bio solution is not only environmentally friendly but also retains strength and clarity, making it an ideal choice for companies looking to improve sustainability. With this recommendation, Ragus became the first sugar company to trial sustainable, bio-based packaging, resulting in a 50% reduction in plastic usage and a decrease in CO2 emissions by 13,764kg per year.

Henry Eastick, Manager at Ragus Sugars, emphasized the performance and clarity of the Bio film, stating that it is identical to the previous non-sustainable stretch film used, demonstrating its potential for widespread adoption in the industry. The Bio film is fully transparent, ensuring that the company’s iconic branding remains visible throughout transit.

This transformation in packaging not only reduces plastic waste but also underlines Ragus Sugars’ commitment to sustainability, setting a new industry benchmark for food and drink packaging. For more information about this innovative sustainable packaging solution, visit Lindum’s website.
