Possible redundancies at Wolverhampton site revealed by Scotbeef Food and Beverage Business

Scotbeef, the meat processor, has announced potential redundancies at its Wolverhampton operation. Presently, 54 roles are at risk of redundancy. The meat processor faces this unfortunate situation due to a substantial loss of a contract with Aldi. Production roles, accounting for 28 of the affected positions, will be the most severely hurt. To date, the Wolverhampton site employs 98 individuals. However, the number may soon be halved due to inadequate work volume to meet current staffing levels. Nonetheless, 29 workers will still be required for the Hicare work, which the company will continue to produce. In an effort to minimize the number of employees affected, and creating a possible redundancy plan, discussions with representatives of all affected employees will soon take place. Despite these efforts, every employee at the Wolverhampton site remains at risk of redundancy in the future.

Scotbeef produces primary and added-value red meat products for the UK retail sector, foodservice, and export markets from nine sites throughout Scotland and England. The Wolverhampton site, established in 2016, is among those sites. Since its establishment, the company has ensured DNA traceability for all of its beef. The company’s operation in Aberdeenshire received permission from the local council to construct a £17m processing facility in 2018.

In other news, Oscar Mayer plans to downsize its Flint, North Wales plant, which puts 330 staff members at risk of redundancy.
