Parkside and the New Forest Fruit Company have collaborated to create an innovative and sustainable packaging solution for their new range of dried strawberries. This plant-based packaging is designed to be home compostable within 26 weeks in normal composting conditions and 12 weeks in an industrial composting facility.

These “plant to packet” products are grown, processed, and packed exclusively on the New Forest Fruit Company’s farm in Hampshire, ensuring minimal carbon footprint for each item.

Staci Bye, Business Unit Manager at Parkside, stated, “Sustainable packaging is a core value for our business, so we were excited to partner with a brand that shares our ethos. This collaboration allowed us to develop a high-quality product packed as sustainably as possible, and the results speak for themselves.”

This packaging is particularly significant as it represents a first in the UK snack market, thanks to the innovative combination of pulse drying and freeze drying techniques. The collaboration between Parkside’s innovation team and the customer ensured excellent results for this unique product.

The compostable packs were crafted with the brand’s sustainability goals in mind. By utilizing pulse drying and freeze drying, New Forest Fruit can process fruits that don’t meet retailers’ specifications due to size or shape, thus minimizing waste. Sandy Booth, Owner of New Forest Fruit Company, expressed delight in the new compostable packaging, which effectively conveys the freshness and quality of their snacking strawberries to consumers.

The Park2Nature range of packaging from Parkside is made using PEFC-accredited plant-based resources and is GMO and PLA-free.
