UK packaging manufacturer Paranova has teamed up with fresh produce supplier AMFresh to produce approximately one million sustainable fibre-based punnets for the launch of BOOMBITES grapes. The packs form part of Paranova’s expanding FibreFresh HeatSeal range and reflect wider food and beverage industry trends toward practical, lower-plastic packaging solutions.

The new recyclable FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnet is now available across M&S, Tesco and Ocado stores nationwide. Designed as an alternative to conventional plastic formats, it combines the protection and functionality required for fresh produce with the environmental advantages of a fibre-based pack. The solution supports retailers and growers pursuing food and drink sustainability goals while maintaining product presentation and quality.

The punnet uses specialist respiration and transpiration management to help preserve grape freshness throughout the supply chain. It also offers strong machinability and can operate effectively on existing packing lines, allowing customers to introduce fibre-based food and drink packaging without major changes to production processes. This compatibility reflects the practical focus of current food manufacturing trends and food processing technology development.

After being adopted widely for tomatoes, the FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnet is now entering the grape category through the BOOMBITES launch. Its move into another fresh produce application highlights the format’s adaptability and its potential to support evolving food distribution trends, food and drink consumer trends and food and drink regulations.

The initiative also demonstrates how food and drink industry innovation can connect packaging performance with food and drink marketing objectives, giving retailers a sustainable format that supports shelf appeal while responding to consumer expectations.

Michael Conway, Chief Commercial Officer at Paranova, said “Producing nearly one million FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnets for the BOOMBITES grape launch is a significant milestone for Paranova and demonstrates how quickly our FibreFresh range is gaining momentum across the fresh produce sector.

This project showcases the versatility of the FibreFresh HeatSeal Punnet and how it can be successfully adapted for new produce categories while delivering the quality, performance and shelf appeal expected by both retailers and consumers. It’s another example of how we’re helping customers make the transition to fibre-based packaging at scale.”
