Holmen Iggesund introduces Inverform PET 30, a 30 gsm version of their popular ready-made meal trays that offers significant climate impact reduction, helping customers improve sustainability. This environmentally friendly product reduces carbon footprint by over 25% compared to the 40 gsm version.

When it comes to creating ready-made meal trays, Holmen Iggesund’s combined PET coating and paperboard products provide all the benefits of plastic trays. Made from fresh wood fibers sourced from sustainably managed forests, these trays offer a more sustainable alternative with a significantly lower carbon footprint.

Utilizing a combination of paperboard and PET coatings in food tray production allows for better recyclability compared to trays made solely with fossil-based materials. Additionally, the PET coating ensures excellent temperature resistance, making it perfect for microwave or oven use with ready-made chilled and frozen foods while providing a barrier against moisture and fats.

Holmen Iggesund has previously offered a 40 gsm version of their PET coating. However, thanks to product innovation and valuable customer feedback, they now present a unique 30 gsm version. This new option reduces plastic content by 25% compared to the 40 gsm version, without compromising on quality and functionality.

“Our PET 30 gsm product offers the required temperature resistance and excellent barrier protection against fats and moisture, all with minimal use of plastic,” says Malin Ekroos, Product Manager Added Value at Holmen Iggesund. “This product aligns with our commitment to reducing plastic usage in packaging, meeting the demands of both consumers and brands.”

“Compared to other extrusion-coated PET options available, our new product has the lowest plastic content,” adds Ekroos. “The launch of Holmen Iggesund PET 30 marks a significant step in our ongoing journey to provide increasingly sustainable alternatives through continuous product innovation.”

The new PET 30 gsm product can be combined with Holmen Iggesund’s Inverform paperboard products. With the reduced plastic content, the company now offers a ratio of 90% fiber to 10% plastic in some of their combined paperboard and PET products.

Available in black, white, or transparent versions, the PET coating provides not only high temperature resistance but also excellent sealing properties and an effective barrier against oxygen and fat. The reverse side of the PET-coated surface also boasts a glossy finish, enhancing surface characteristics.
