Experience the lightweight convenience of the yogurt cup introduced by Netstal at Fakuma. This exceptional product boasts impressive features such as a filling volume of 200 g, a part weight of 5.4 g, and a mere 0.3 mm wall thickness. Made entirely of 100% recyclable polypropylene (PP), this packaging ensures easy recycling. Unlike traditional in-mold labels, the label on this cup can be effortlessly removed during the mechanical recycling process, preventing any impact on the PP stream. By utilizing the Injection Compression Molding (ICM) technique, the weight of the cup is remarkably reduced by 34%, contributing to sustainability goals. Furthermore, a combination of the ICM process and product optimization brings about a significant 27% reduction in packaging volume.
Producing sustainable packaging with exceptional energy efficiency
The sustainable thin-wall packaging for dairy products is produced with outstanding efficiency in Netstal’s Elion 1750 machine, utilizing a hybrid injection unit. With four cavities and a cycle time of only 2.7 seconds, this machine demonstrates reliable performance and leading energy efficiency. Netstal’s innovative adaptive system pressure reduction contributes to further optimizing energy efficiency in the hybrid machines. By continuously adjusting the pressure in the hydraulic system, the control system achieves the optimum point at all times, resulting in minimized energy consumption.
This packaging application, designed for optimal recycling, is the result of collaboration with esteemed system partners including Glaroform, Beck Automation, SABIC, IPB Printing, motan, Regloplas, and Uniform Color. Emmi AG, the largest bottler of dairy products, played a crucial role as a development partner from the food industry. The packaging specifications were meticulously optimized in line with Emmi’s requirements, while retaining the cup’s original appearance.
Effortless machine operation with the new Axos control system
Netstal introduces the latest generation of its control technology, Axos 9, for the Elion and Elios series machines. This innovative operating concept empowers users to maximize the performance of their Netstal machines. The integration of Smart Operation enables quick, safe, and effective machine operation by production environment employees. Previously available as an optional feature, Smart Operation is now included in the scope of delivery starting from Axos 9.
