Industrial Revolution in Fiber Packaging: Yangi's Cellera® Launches Production-Ready Fiber Trays for the Food Sector Dry molded fiber, food and drink packaging, food and drink sustainable packaging, Food packaging Food and Beverage Business

Yangi has unveiled the first production-ready dry-formed fiber tray for meat, fish, deli, and ready meals, powered by Cellera®, the company’s innovative dry forming technology. This fully integrated industrial platform delivers a cost-effective, high-volume output with consistent precision, offering the operational stability that packaging producers and converters need to scale confidently. Featuring premium surface quality and enhanced design freedom, this tray sets a new benchmark for fiber packaging, enabling brands to step beyond the confines of traditional wet-molded fiber.

Performance & Design: Tailored for Food and Drink Packaging

The tray is expertly designed to meet the functional requirements of various food and drink packaging applications. Rigorous testing for consumer use in chilled, frozen, microwave, and oven environments confirms that the tray retains its shape, strength, and stability through typical handling. With advanced sealing capabilities and compatibility with Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), it effectively supports shelf life aspirations for protein and ready-meal applications.

Constructed from renewable, responsibly sourced virgin fibers, the tray is PFAS-free and incorporates a functional laminate strategically applied to meet high-demand applications. Its recyclability varies based on the selected laminate, with certain designs aligning with existing paper recycling systems to facilitate fiber recovery post-use. The integrated fiber chemistry guarantees optimal outer properties, and the tray is available in both bleached and unbleached variations, adaptable to the required format. It supports debossing and high-resolution digital printing that covers the entire surface, including the sides, along with a label-ready finish.

“The tray can be used as designed or tailored to fulfill specific product, barrier, and design requirements,” states Hanna Rudel, Chief Commercial Officer at Yangi. “It empowers brands and converters to adopt fiber-based packaging that is intentional, premium, and high-performing while maintaining design, functionality, and cost-effectiveness.”

Yangi Cellera®: Setting the Standard in Sustainable Packaging

This tray is produced using Cellera®, Yangi’s cutting-edge dry forming platform. It utilizes precision dual-drum airlaid formation, in-line custom pad formation, and precision transfer technology to maximize fiber control and optimize material use, resulting in smooth, uniform surfaces that were previously unattainable with renewable fibers. By eliminating the wet stage of traditional pulp molding, Cellera® simplifies production processes, reduces complexity, and enables industrial-scale dry forming with fast cycle times of 4–6 seconds. The outcome is consistent, high-volume output with tighter tolerances and lower energy and water consumption. This dry forming method marks a fundamental shift in fiber packaging production, transitioning from wet pulp processes to a precise and scalable approach.

“With renewable materials, a PFAS-free composition, and approximately 80% lower CO impact compared to plastic alternatives, Yangis dry-formed tray signifies more than just a product launch,” remarks Anna Altner, Founder at Yangi. “For packaging producers and brands searching for alternatives to wet-molded fiber, it signals the emergence of dry forming as the new standard in sustainable packaging,” she concludes.
