IMA DAIRY & FOOD USA – has recently integrated a high-tech grinder to enhance the sharpening process for its ZERO Technology, providing a sustainable solution for food and drink packaging. This innovative capability streamlines the production of monomaterial cup packages, reducing downtime and costs for food brands. The grinder allows for on-site sharpening of cutting teeth, minimizing interruptions and ensuring efficient packaging solutions for sustainable materials like PET, PP, and PLA.

By utilizing IMA’s patented ZERO Technology, up to 24 cups can be cut simultaneously, delivering top-quality cutting of eco-conscious packaging materials. This includes the ability to efficiently break multi-packs into individual units, a process that has traditionally been complex and limited the use of monomaterial packaging.

The new on-site grinder enables quick re-sharpening of punches, featuring a rigid structure and precision bearings for high metal sharpening accuracy. It can be easily outfitted onto most form-fill-seal machines, seamlessly incorporating Zero Technology with advanced grinding capabilities. Line stoppage is reduced to just 20 minutes, as individual tool components can be replaced onsite, saving time and optimizing the servicing process for ongoing maintenance.

Significantly reducing the cost of ownership, IMA’s Zero Technology cutting tools are more robust than traditional tools, lasting twice as long and offering sustainability for food and drink sustainable packaging. The utilization of independent sleeves allows for cup design changes without the need for entirely new thermoforming molds, promoting materials agnosticism and furthering important sustainability goals for food brands.

Furthermore, the combination of a formed cup with a PET lid and label creates a fully recyclable package, emphasizing premium sustainability. The use of transparent monomaterials also enhances the product’s visibility to consumers, improving on-shelf aesthetics and consumer appeal.
