Greiner Packaging is working with nutritional food brand Huel to introduce its new High Protein Ramen Noodle Cups, using the company’s K3® packaging system. The format combines a cardboard sleeve with a plastic cup to meet the practical demands of instant noodle packaging while creating a strong visual presence on the shelf. Available exclusively at Tesco stores throughout the UK, Huel’s High Protein Ramen range provides busy consumers with a nutritionally complete, high-protein meal option.

Packaging engineered for standout presentation and convenience

Huel chose Greiner Packaging’s K3® format to complement the energetic positioning of its latest product. The pack pairs a plastic cup with a premium printed cardboard sleeve, delivering a distinctive appearance while creating more room for branding, product details and preparation guidance.

“We chose Greiner Packaging´s K3® packaging because it offers the perfect combination of premium shelf impact and consumer convenience. The high-quality finish helps our noodle range stand out in-store, while the cardboard wrap provides added insulation, making hot meals more comfortable to handle and enjoy. As a result, K3 is the perfect packaging fit for our convenient, nutritionally complete meal concept. Launching exclusively into Tesco is just the beginning, and we have ambitious plans for the range.” (Tim Urch, Senior Marketing Manager, Huel)

Bright colours, sharp print quality and UV spot varnishing give the cardboard sleeve a premium finish that reinforces Huel’s brand identity. The structure can also reduce plastic consumption because the cardboard provides much of the pack’s strength, allowing the plastic cup to use thinner walls than conventional printed plastic alternatives.

In addition, the sleeve offers thermal insulation, making the K3® format well suited to hot food applications. Consumers can prepare and eat the meal directly from the container, supporting the convenience-led food and drink consumer trends shaping the category. This approach also reflects wider food and beverage industry trends, including demand for practical formats that combine functionality, product quality and more responsible packaging design.

Helping consumers sort packaging correctly

An integrated tear tab enables consumers to remove the cardboard sleeve from the plastic cup after use. Disposal guidance printed on the sleeve explains the separation process and encourages correct sorting in line with local waste management requirements.

The sleeve also gives Huel a valuable communication platform after the product reaches the shelf. Preparation directions, nutritional information, brand storytelling and other messages can all be presented on the expanded surface area. As a result, the packaging supports food and drink marketing objectives while extending the consumer experience beyond purchase.

The design also responds to growing interest in food and drink sustainability and food and drink packaging solutions that make disposal instructions easier to understand. Clear communication can help brands engage consumers more effectively as food and drink regulations and local recycling systems continue to evolve.

Collaborative development supports a rapid launch

Huel and Greiner Packaging worked closely throughout the project to bring the new format to market within demanding timeframes. Their collaboration demonstrates how coordinated development across the packaging and food supply chain can improve speed to market while maintaining performance and brand value.

The project reflects current food manufacturing trends, food processing technology developments and food distribution trends, where efficient packaging formats play an increasingly important role in product differentiation and supply chain performance. It also highlights the role of food and drink industry innovation in delivering convenient products for modern consumers.

“Huel wanted packaging that reflected the boldness of its new product. Together, we created a solution that delivers premium shelf impact, functionality and a packaging design that supports correct disposal after consumption, helping Huel make a strong first impression in an exciting new category.”, explains Donna Cullen, Sales Manager at Greiner Packaging.
