This autumn, Greiner Packaging earned several awards for packaging concepts designed to meet the practical requirements of brand owners, retailers, and consumers. The recognized solutions combine purposeful design, reliable product protection, efficient material use, and greater convenience. Honors included the Swiss Packaging Award, OBAL ROKU, and the Austrian State Prize Smart Packaging. Together, these achievements illustrate how Greiner Packaging connects packaging development with measurable product performance and meaningful customer value—priorities that increasingly shape food and beverage industry trends.
Swiss Packaging Award Recognizes K3® Multipacks
Greiner Packaging received the Swiss Packaging Award in the “Sustainability” category for its K3® multipack cups made with mechanically recycled polystyrene (r-PS). The award-winning format combines a lightweight, thin-walled plastic cup with a reinforcing cardboard sleeve.
Compared with a conventional directly printed cup, the design can lower plastic consumption while continuing to deliver the protection and quality required for food applications. The use of r-PS also replaces a portion of virgin plastic. As a result, the packaging can reduce its carbon footprint by approximately 10%¹ compared with earlier polystyrene-based K3® multipack cups.
For brand owners, the solution supports a gradual transition toward more resource-efficient packaging without compromising the functionality consumers recognize and rely on. The award reflects Greiner Packaging’s collaborative approach to packaging development, which focuses on measurable material reductions, recycled content, and verified performance. These priorities are increasingly important as food manufacturing trends and food and drink sustainability goals influence packaging decisions.

Click In Sealing Lid Wins at OBAL ROKU
At OBAL ROKU 2026, Greiner Packaging’s Click In sealing lid won recognition in two categories. The solution received an award in the “Food” category and a special award in the “Sustainability” category.
The integrated closure replaces the traditional combination of an aluminum foil seal and a separate snap-on lid. It brings together resealing capability, straightforward handling, and dependable product protection. A distinct clicking sound confirms to users that the package has been closed correctly.
This design is especially suitable for products consumed over several occasions. It helps keep the contents protected and reduces the risk of leakage, while allowing the pack to open easily and close securely each time. When paired with a cup manufactured from the same polymer, the format may create a mono-material package that can support simpler sorting, subject to local collection, sorting, and recycling systems.
The award underlines Greiner Packaging’s focus on food processing technology and food and drink industry innovation that provide tangible advantages for both consumers and commercial customers. It also reflects the industry’s growing attention to practical food and drink packaging solutions that support convenience without overlooking end-of-life considerations.
CUBO Receives Austrian State Prize Smart Packaging
CUBO received the Special “Innovation” Award at Austrian Packaging Day as part of the Austrian State Prize Smart Packaging. This distinction recognizes packaging concepts that are not yet fully commercialized but show strong potential to deliver economic and social benefits.
Featuring a square profile with rounded corners, CUBO uses available space more efficiently than comparable round cups. Its shape allows units to be positioned more closely together on pallets and retail shelves, reducing unused space. Up to 30%² more units can be transported on each pallet as a result. This capacity may reduce the space required for logistics and storage, as well as the number of pallets and shipments needed.
The design also enables retailers to display more products within the same shelf footprint. Store teams may therefore need to replenish shelves less often. At the same time, the stable geometry helps create a clean, orderly, and consistent brand presentation.
For brand owners, CUBO combines logistics efficiencies with stronger visibility at the point of sale. Depending on the intended application, the concept can be produced in different materials and with various decoration solutions, allowing it to align with individual product specifications and brand strategies. Such flexibility supports evolving food distribution trends and food and drink marketing requirements.
²A pallet can hold 480 units of the 400 ml CUBO cup. Compared with a standard 400 ml round cup, this is equivalent to four additional layers per pallet.
Recognition Across Multiple International Markets
Greiner Packaging’s solutions have now gained recognition in several markets: the Swiss Packaging Award in Switzerland, OBAL ROKU in the Czech Republic, and the Austrian State Prize Smart Packaging in Austria. Collectively, these awards demonstrate the company’s ability to address diverse packaging expectations while delivering functional performance and convenience throughout the value chain, from brand owners and retailers to end consumers.
As food and drink consumer trends continue to evolve alongside food and drink regulations, companies must balance efficiency, usability, sustainability, and visual appeal. Greiner Packaging’s award-winning concepts show how packaging development can respond to these demands while supporting broader food and beverage industry trends.
