AWARD-winning packaging manufacturer and supplier Go-Pak Group has launched its innovative and patented fibre-based Paper Cutlery range. This groundbreaking development sets a new standard for sustainable food and drink packaging in the food-to-go and takeaway sectors, designed to outperform current alternatives.

Created by Go-Pak Group and developed in collaboration with its sister company, Thai Paper Company Limited—one of ASEAN’s largest integrated pulp and paper producers—and with support from parent company SCG Packaging (SCGP), this patented design exemplifies the innovation that arises when Asia’s leading vertically integrated packaging company combines its expertise.

Alan Sterrey, Global Brands Manager at Go-Pak Group, stated: “We’re incredibly proud to launch this product after 18 months of intensive research, rigorous testing, and collaborative innovation. It’s a true reflection of what’s possible within the SCGP Group, developing sustainable solutions that genuinely make a difference.”

This innovative range offers a superior eating experience with a smoother texture, enhanced strength, and zero aftertaste, addressing key challenges faced by both consumers and operators. Recognizing its excellence, the range received an award at the HOFEX – HOREC Asia 2025 Innovation Awards and was shortlisted for the Consumer Convenience Award at the 2025 UK Packaging Awards.

Following the UK’s ban on single-use plastics in 2023, which previously saw England using an estimated 4.25 billion disposable cutlery items each year, the movement toward sustainable alternatives has become a significant trend in 2025. Both businesses and consumers are actively seeking suitable replacements for this vast amount.

Made from responsibly sourced paper, each piece of cutlery is crafted from multiple layers of compressed material to ensure maximum rigidity and durability. Consequently, this product feels comfortable in hand, maintains its shape with hot and cold foods, and provides a neutral taste experience along with a smooth mouth-feel.

Recyclable at specialized facilities and constructed from sustainable materials, the Paper Cutlery not only matches but also exceeds the strength and performance of existing market options. This advancement represents a positive step forward for a sector increasingly pressed to deliver sustainable food and drink packaging solutions without compromising quality.

Lynn Creighton, Group Product Technical Manager at Go-Pak Group, remarked: “Consumers want recyclable options, but they also want them to perform well. Our new paper range delivers on both fronts – it’s strong and comfortable, with a smooth eating experience, and is recyclable at dedicated facilities – giving customers and caterers the best of both worlds.”

The design of this range also brings operational efficiencies. Each cutlery piece is engineered for seamless stacking, enhancing storage and handling efficiency in fast-paced foodservice environments. For operators aiming to elevate their brand visibility, Go-Pak offers custom embossing and food-safe printed branding options.

Lynn added: “This is about proving that responsibly sourced and recyclable products don’t have to compromise on quality.”
