Ginsters Unveils Innovative Pastry Toasties for Quick Meals

Ginsters has introduced a new range of pastry toasties that can be heated directly in a toaster in just four minutes. This convenient innovation addresses the growing consumer demand for quick and satisfying meals.

The new 130g Pastry Toasties come in three enticing flavours:

  • Smoked Ham & Cheddar
  • Tomato, Basil & Mozzarella
  • Chicken, Pesto & Mozzarella

Each toastie features 100% British meat and combines various types of pastry to ensure a flaky texture without the mess typically associated with heating.

In conversation with the lead development chef, it was clarified that a single type of pastry, such as puff, would not work well in the toaster due to expansion issues, while shortcrust pastry would be too brittle. This thoughtful creation underscores Ginsters’ commitment to delivering quality products.

The launch follows a notable rise in demand for quick, warm, and delicious lunchtime options. Kantar data indicates that 85.5% of UK households enjoy savoury pastries, especially when served hot. However, nearly one in three consumers express difficulty in finding high-quality, affordable, and convenient hot meal options that are quick to prepare.

Consequently, Ginsters prioritized creating a product that could simply be popped into the toaster for a light and speedy lunch. Interestingly, many competing products are currently suitable only for oven use, creating a unique selling point for Ginsters’ offering.

Consumer testing yielded encouraging results, with 72% of participants stating the concept sounded new and different. Additionally, 79% found it exciting, and 76% indicated they would likely purchase the toasties.

The bakery firm has recorded significant growth in both value and volume over the past year, ending August 30, as reported by Nielsen. Specifically, the company is up 3.6% in value and 1.4% in volume. With plans to expand its footprint, Ginsters recommends positioning the new toasties in the micro-snacking aisle.

The development team emphasized that the toasties are made solely from store cupboard ingredients, aligning with the rising demand for clean labels.

Moreover, the new range boasts a minimum shelf life of six days and can also be frozen, enhancing convenience for consumers. The toasties will launch exclusively in Tesco starting October 6, 2025. Notably, the Smoked Ham and Cheddar Pastry Toastie will be available at select Tesco Express locations from November 10, with a recommended retail selling price of £2.50.
