Bag-in-Box packaging is emerging as a practical alternative to conventional rigid plastic containers for suitable products classified within Packing Groups II and III.

The opportunity is being advanced by Leeds-based Fenton Packaging Solutions in partnership with Sweden-based Quadpak. Fenton serves as a preferred partner, helping customers evaluate and develop Bag-in-Box applications across the UK, Ireland and the UAE.

For compatible detergents, professional cleaning formulations and chemical products, the flexible format can replace rigid plastic jerry cans and similar containers. It uses less packaging material in many applications and can improve the efficiency of warehouse storage and transportation.

Bag-in-Box systems can also be equipped with controlled dispensing and dosing technology, depending on the product and end-use requirements. These capabilities reflect wider developments in food processing technology and packaging innovation, where efficient formats increasingly support operational performance and sustainability objectives.

Proquimia, a Spanish producer of professional cleaning and disinfection products, demonstrates the format’s potential in the hygiene sector. The company adopted Quadpak’s packaging at an early stage through its Ecoconpack hygiene system. The solution uses Bag-in-Box for highly concentrated products intended for kitchen cleaning and disinfection, housekeeping, general cleaning and laundry, alongside accurate dosing equipment.

Such developments align with broader food and beverage industry trends, food manufacturing trends and food distribution trends, particularly the growing focus on resource efficiency, logistics and responsible packaging. They also reflect the wider priorities shaping food and drink industry innovation, food and drink sustainability, food and drink regulations, food and drink packaging, food and drink marketing and food and drink consumer trends.

Chris Warren, managing partner at Fenton Packaging Solutions, said: “The financial and sustainability benefits of moving away from rigid plastic are becoming increasingly evident,” says Chris Warren. “Bag-in-Box gives customers an opportunity to reduce packaging material while improving storage and transport efficiency and, where appropriate, incorporating effective dispensing systems.”

“Our close cooperation with Quadpak strengthens our ability to develop and support these applications. By combining Quadpak’s flexible packaging expertise with Fenton’s market knowledge and customer relationships, we can help businesses identify suitable packaging alternatives for their cleaning, hygiene and chemical packaging requirements.”
